Attorney Matt Sage | New Jersey Criminal Defense Lawyer

Based out of Toms River, New Jersey, attorney Matt Sage is committed to protecting the rights of his criminal defense clients. Choosing the right criminal defense lawyer is a complex decision that should not be taken lightly. You should talk to your prospective lawyer about his/her experience handling criminal defense cases, like yours, in your area.

Background

Matt was born in Toms River, and raised in Ocean County. He is a Monsignor Donovan High School graduate, and a graduate of the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.  Matt  completed his legal education at Rutgers University School of Law, Camden.

After graduating from Rutgers School of Law, Camden, Matt accepted a clerkship with the Honorable Frank Buczynski, Jr., the Presiding Judge of the Civil Part and Chancery Part of the Ocean County Superior Court.  During this time, Matt gained intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the Court system, while learning what makes a truly effective advocate.

Matt has served as the municipal court public defender, and privately represented numerous criminal defendants in Superior Court as well as Municipal Court. He has successfully handled various litigation matters on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, which run the gambit from breach of contract, to defending wrongful death claims.

Associations, Awards, & Community Involvement

Matt is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and he is presently an officer and member of the Ocean County Bar Association.

While at Rutgers School of Law, Matt was the recipient of the International Association of Trial Lawyers Student Advocacy Award which is presented to only one student per school, per year. The criterion for the award is for a student who demonstrates an overall ability in trial advocacy by high achievement in trial practice, evidence, pleading and procedure courses.

He is still involved at Monsignor Donovan as the Attorney-Coach for the Mock Trial Team. In 2010, the mock trial team advanced to fourth place in the state out of 250 teams. This was the furthest any team from Ocean County had advanced in the competition.
